Position Yourself

"Let the heroes rest, let the striving cease

I lay down my crown, here at your feet" - Amanda Cook

I have this habit of matching worship music with bible verses, sometimes consciously and sometimes unconsciously. The first time I heard this song, I had not paid much attention to the lyrics. I heard it again during my quiet time with God and I was immediately stopped by the chorus that says "Awake my soul to sing with your breath in me I will worship, you taught my feet to dance upon disappointments and I will worship". After listening to the chorus I took the song all the way to the beginning and was met with the lyrics above again. At first, I was confused by the lyrics but then I remembered the words in 2 Chronicles 20:15

Do not be afraid ! Don't be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but Gods'.

Then it all made sense!

I have to put MY own hero to rest, I have to stop striving. All the battles in my life that I have tried to fight and failed to win is because I did not let the real hero fight my battles, I did not give God a chance to win.

But all my amazement did not end there. Verse 17 goes on to say:

You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!

"Position yourselves" That was it !! I needed to position myself to see the victory of God's battle. But the question then was how do I position myself? Then the answer came to me through the chorus of Amanda's song, I will worship! I will position myself in worship to see the glory of God in my life. And worship goes beyond the lyrics of a song. It goes on to my prayers, my acts of faith, my lifestyle, my relationships, and my service.

I will worship.

I will worship with my very being and live in a way that does not contradict the faith that I proclaim through my prayers.

I will worship.

Even through disappointments, I will worship. I will worship until the battle is won by the true hero, God. No matter how hard we strive to have authority over a situation in our lives, God still has the final decisive say, so why not let him just have total control? When there seems like there is nothing else we can do, let us Worship. For the battle is not ours, but Gods'.
